Marking the northernmost headland at the entrance to the Ross Sea, Cape Adare is one of the largest (if not the largest) Adélie penguin colonies in Antarctica, with over 250,000 nesting and breeding pairs on the flats and cliffs. Those that arrive first nest on the first available bare rock close to shore. Those that arrive last find thier nest sites on the imposing and trecherous cliffs.
